Legend has it that the classic Montecristo No.2 was used to launch the Montecristo brand at the Alfred Dunhill shop in New York City back in 1935 hence the name chosen to identify this new range of premium full strength cigars. Montecristo is the best known and, perhaps, the most appreciated Habanos brand and is considered by many to be the benchmark for Habanos flavour. Its name had its origins in the novel The Count of Montecristo, by Alexandre Dumas, enormously popular with cigar rollers at the H. Upmann factory in Havana, where the cigars were first rolled in 1935.
